| Description and Objectives |
| The employment of Social Animateurs to
provide support to residents in five isolated geographical neighbourhoods,
to form, nurture and function embryonic groups to strengthen their voice
and position. Thus empowering them to better engage in the current and
future economic life and regeneration of the area.
This will be linked to the City Wide CBED initiative through the membership of Local Initiatives Foundation for Training (L.I.F.T) as a partner within this initiative. No other strategy positively identifies these five areas for special consideration. The geographical location of these areas has existed for many years. The loss of the manufacturing base in the local economy exacerbated the isolation through a larger number of the residents from these areas becoming unemployed and relying on benefits for their economic survival. None of the five areas has a community useable building within or in close proximity. Most past initiatives have been delivered from buildings close to the multi storey flats, which many residents perceive as being an area of high crime and so a threat to their personal safety, which has deterred them from accessing these opportunities. To do nothing will leave these residents in their current position of isolation. To sympathise with their position and offer minimal support will leave them in a position having the redevelopment of the Football Stadium and the possible closure of their local primary school happen with them not having an infrastructure to present a collective view on the impact to their lives and living environment. |
