Description and Objectives
A project which aims to provide access for local residents to the information resources of the World Wide Web, electronically links community groups and other partners, contributes to the marketing plan for Hillfields, develops the capacity of local businesses and adds to the skills of local residents. The project consists of the following elements:
  1. The establishment of public access information points where local residents can access the internet with support. This will include the establishment of a cyber café at Sidney Stringer CTC.
  2. A training programme on the WWW for participants in the programme and local residents in Hillfields.
  3. The provision of an access pack for voluntary and community groups and partner organisations so that they can access the resources of the WWW.
  4. The establishment of a local newsgroup so that local groups and partner organisations can disburse information easily.
  5. The development of a network of web pages for Hillfields and the establishment of a group of users trained in the design of web pages.
  6. The development of educational use of Internet Technology building on the facilities and expertise at Sidney Stringer CTC. This will include the development of remote access to educational resources on SSCTC’s own network, creation of educational web pages and the development of educational resources on the WWW.
  7. The establishment of a Business Support Programme on the use of Internet Technology, including:
  • Awareness raising sessions
  • One-to-one support for local businesses
  • Training for managers and staff
  • A 12 month updating service

The project contributes to Actions c and b under Measure 3, and Action f of Measure 2.
