Description and Objectives
This project aims to install situational improvements throughout the Hillfields area to the benefit of the whole community by reducing the opportunity for criminal activity.
  • To install ‘situational improvements’ (e.g. lighting, gating) in the area to reduce criminal opportunity.
  • To reduce the vulnerability of individuals to incidents of personal attack and offer general improved safety to the public.
  • The programme would help reduce the levels of prostitution and burglary in the area.
  • The work would help Officers apprehend criminals through the restricted use of alleyways and neighbouring areas.
  • The programme would build upon current safety work and would significantly contribute to the approach identified in the Hillfields Area Action Plan.
  • The programme would help restore local confidence through an increase in crime reduction measures and subsequently address / decrease the fear of crime.

The key constituent components of the work undertaken would be as follows:

  1. To design and install a comprehensive gating initiative as part of a Secure Community Programme
  2. Install lighting where needed to complement the programme
  3. Install Close Circuit Television where needed to complement the programme

To install appropriate signage where needed.
