| Description and Objectives |
| The project will develop community
involvement in the design and management as well as the implementation of
these improvements. It will add to the visual appearance of the SME area,
Street scene and adjacent areas adjacent to and impacting on the
regenerated Shopping area.
The project intends to build on the improvements that have already been undertaken in the area through the SRB 1 – Community Led Environmental Strategy, SRB 2 – Children & The Environment, and SRB 1 & 2 – combined Shopping Centre Regeneration Projects. The project will undertake environmental improvements which will enhance the street scene, provide public seating areas, landscaping and planting schemes, hanging baskets, murals, banners and street lighting. Further improvements will be made to the leisure facilities, safe play, community gardens and will seek to provide a community dog walking area. The project will look at ways in which degraded sites and buildings can be reclaimed and or enhanced and brought back into use. The environment of the regenerated Shopping Centre will enhanced by improvements to the immediate and adjacent areas, and will be complimentary to improvements already completed or in process. These include improved visual appearance and specific measures to reduce both crime and fear of crime, through the use of improved lighting and CCTV – (these works will be co-ordinated with the Hillfields Community Safety Co-ordinator). The specific details of these schemes will be developed through consultation with the local community, during the consultation process, and during the design and implementation stages of individual initiatives within the proposed Patchwork Environmental Challenge programme detailed in this application. |
