Description and Objectives
The project proposes to carry out a varied programme of public art projects at a number of sites across Hillfields. It will involve members of the public working with local artists to design, make and install the finished pieces. As well as enhancing the appearance of the area and working towards restoring a sense of pride and local identity, the project will provide temporary and long term employment for artists living in Hillfields. Arts Exchange is working with a number of partners to ensure that local people are involved at every stage of the project and so that a number of voluntary groups and individuals benefit from their involvement.
  • To develop, manage and deliver a comprehensive programme of public arts projects through Hillfields involving members of the public working with local artists
  • To enhance the appearance of the area, reflecting economic regeneration and improving the living environment of local people
  • To provide local people with the opportunity to make a difference to their area, both by physically improving its appearance and by encouraging a greater sense of co-operation and community
  • To provide employment opportunities for local artists
  • To provide voluntary work opportunities for local people which will benefit them through the skills and confidence gained by participating
  • To create a positive identity for the area, reflecting the diversity of the local community, to promote an improved impression of Hillfields both for Hillfields residents and people from outside the area.
  • To develop and build on existing relationship with local youth, community and voluntary groups
  • To empower local people throughout the involvement in the design, decision-making and management process at every stage of the process.
