Watch is a Community Organisation based in Hillfields, and is directed by a Management Committee of 15 local residents. It is involved in a number of projects which include an Employment and Advice Centre, Community Team, Young Peoples project and a Learndirect Centre. This project is funding two community development workers, Sarah and John to work with community groups within the area to provide support, help build capacity and promote the work of the area. Sarah and John can be found participating in the Hillfields Action Groups; Health, Safety, Environmental, Police Liaison and Hillfields Team Meetings. Work is ongoing with a variety of resident and community groups to develop their capacity, provide support on things like funding, constitutions, planning issues to name a few! As part of this training sessions have taken place around arranging and conducting meetings in order to increase the capacity of groups. Further sessions will take place once identified. In addition to work with community groups the team has developed a new Community Newspaper which has articles from lots of different sources and a competition to name the Newspaper! The Newspaper will be produced four times a year in the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, contributions are always welcome and can be sent to: news@watch-hillfields.org
Community events have already taken place with more planned. An event for residents to find out about the Swanswell initiative took place in February and a day at Freehold Street with stalls, face painting, canoes, barge trips and a BBQ. Part of the day which took place in April was to develop a Hillfields Forum of community groups which will bring together all of the representatives to provide a stronger voice for Hillfields. |
