Hillfields Crime Reduction Officer

The Crime Reduction Officer is a member of police staff who has passed a training programme at the Home Office College in Crime Reduction and Architectural Liaison (designing out crime)

It is part of her role to analyse crime in the Hillfields area and to recommend strategies to reduce that crime and the fear of crime.

In addition to her day to day visits to local victims of crime, the crime reduction officer has played a part in many crime reduction projects.

Designated Place Order

The Crime Reduction Officer recently took the police lead on the ‘Designated Public Places Order’ (Hillfields drinking ban) and in partnership with representatives from the city council obtained the order, allowing police Officers to confiscate alcohol being consumed in Hillfields, thus reducing instances of anti social behaviour.

Trinity point, West Street, Hillf ields

In her role as Architectural Liaison Officer she advised architects and developers on the newly built Trinity Point. Using her Knowledge to ‘design out crime’ the building has now been awarded the prestigious ‘secure by design award’ and is being held up as an example of a long term sustainable crime reduction project.

Multi lingual Crime Reduction advice

As part of a project to help ‘non English speaking’ residents of Hillfields from becoming victims of crime, the Crime Reduction Officer designed and produced leaflets and flyers in six different languages.

Personal safety

Many local groups have benefited from personal safety training give by the Crime Reduction Officer. The training gives individuals a sense of confidence and reduces the fear of crime. Everyone spoken to is given a personal attack alarm.

Neighbourhood wardens

The officer has also been actively involved in crime reduction projects with local neighbourhood wardens and has offered training to them, enabling the targeting of local hotspot areas.

The crime reduction officer is always available to offer advice and can be contacted on 0845 113 5000  on ext.7930 6520
