Vine Street was scheduled for demolition in the post-war redevelopment of Hillfields. Local residents, with the support of Community Development workers set out to save their street. They produced a report and a video which was shown to the Housing Committee who decided in their favour. Their story is documented in a series of articles in the Coventry Evening Telegraph. The residents won their case, but as explained in the last story the decision reflected the start of the decline of Coventry as an industrial city and Hillfields as an employment area.
