The Canterbury Arms, Lower Ford Street.

This picture was taken in 1975, shortly before the pub was demolished. The site, which stands at the roundabout between Lower Ford Street and Alma Street is currently used as an informal open space with trees and a gravel surface. The pub was first called The Board (year not known) and became known as the Spittlemore Bar in 1873. It was renamed the Canterbury Arms in 1900. The pub closed on 18th January 1974 and was demolished the following year.

This is the view today!
