"One night we were in there and it started raining incendiaries and small bombs were dropped on Hillfields and other parts of the city........ King William Street was alight like Blackpool illuminations and a string of trams were all down the street. They couldn't move them and a water main had been  hit outside the Clock pub, as folks often called it ...... some fellow passed this water main ...... he got a little too near and it shot him up into the air, just like those balls you shoot at the fair. Well, when they came back and told us, we could see the funny side of it and we laughed till the tears rolled down our faces."
