Population:
The resident population of St. Michael's in mid 1998 was 16000 people, 5 per cent of the population of Coventry local authority. 21 percent of St. Michael's’s population in mid 1998 were aged under 16, 68 per cent were aged between 16 and 59 and 12 per cent were aged 60 and over. This compares with 22, 58 and 20 per cent respectively for Coventry as a whole.

Vital Statistics:
A total of 217 live births to mothers usually resident in St. Michael's and 108 deaths of residents of this ward were registered in 1998. These represented crude rates of 14 births and 7 deaths per thousand residents compared with 12 and 11 respectively across the whole of Coventry local authority.

Employee Jobs:
There were 27000 employee jobs in St. Michael's at September 1998, 21 per cent of the Coventry total. [it should be noted that Coventry City Centre is included in the Ward]

Income Support:
In August 1998 there were 2075 Income Support claimants in St. Michael's. This represents 16 per cent of the resident population aged 16 or over. For Coventry the proportion was 11 per cent compared with an average of 8 per cent for Great Britain overall.

Indices of Deprivation:
The Indices of Deprivation 2000 (with rank 1 being the most deprived ward in England) gave St. Michael's the rank of 335 out of a total of 8414 English wards.
