PROJECT REJECTED

Project Ref: HF/02/23

Theme or project title: Coventry Refugee Centre Training  Project

 Brief description of the project

The project will increase both the skills of the workers at Coventry Refugee Centre and the understanding of other professionals and the general public about refugee issues.

A trainer will be employed to work with staff – volunteers and paid workers (currently 80) to teach appropriate skills and update them on the continuing changes to the processes  which asylum seekers and refugees face. This will increase the effectiveness of the service we offer

The trainer will also work in the community, with a team of volunteers

running workshops and giving talks to community, voluntary and statutory organisations and the general public. This will increase the effectiveness of their contact with refugees, help the integration of refugees and reduce racism.

Which other organisations will be involved in the project?

INTERNAL TRAINING As stated above, many organisations will be involved in delivering training but the main input will come from CRC.

EXTERNAL TRAINING The  main partners for external training are MGSS, CVSC and WATCH. See letters from them explaining how we can work together. The Refugee Centre is used to working with other organisations. In the preceding year through its involvement on the City Council Strategic Steering Group and the Hillfields local Steering Group the Refugee Centre was a major contributor to the Myth Busting Leaflet which was distributed city wide and also to the conference in Refugee Week on Refugees and Mental Health. However some of the follow up to this conference has not been pursued as rigorously as it should be cause of lack of human resource. There has been only one meeting of the mental health forum and the promised directory of associated groups is still in draft stage. These are both good training opportunities.

Who is leading on developing the project?
